"THE RESIDENTS" at Dickerman Prints 1.24.13 to 3.7.13
ON VIEW JANUARY 24 THROUGH MARCH 7
"THE RESIDENTS" exhibition will showcase new photographic work from the first session of our Artist-in-Residence program.
An opening reception will be held Thursday, January 24th from 6:00 to 8:30pm.
Over the course of her residency, Amanda Boe traveled frequently to the Black Hills region of South Dakota, documenting her brother's relationship to the landscape for her series "Midwest Meets West." Her photographs explore his sense of purpose towards the forests and wild lands he protects as a firefighter, and the changes his environs undergo over time.
Jon McNeal explores the environments at the margins of our everyday. His photographs of scenic and transitional spaces compare the formal beauty and societal value of each, sharing landscapes that open up and unfold in an immediate, experiential way. Jon's perspective shows each place to be as familiar as our day-to-day environments, even those that are, in fact, completely alien terrain.
Charles Purvis photographs natural objects in unnatural arrangements, combining disparate elements like deer antlers and squash, or clementine oranges with an armature of cutlery. Charles' unconventional use of the camera involves placing objects inside the camera body to project shadows onto his still lives, lending another layer of line, space, and design to the resulting photographs.
Feel free to RSVP through Facebook or just stop by!

APA SF & APPLE event: The Collaborative Spirit, Photographers Jody Frost and Christian Peacock, DATE CHANGED TO 2.7.13
The Collaborative Spirit
Photographers, Jody Frost and Christian Peacock
Photographer, model and creative partner Jody Frost will share her stories about the development of the archetype “Isabella”. She and fellow collaborator Christian Peacock will talk about how the germ of an idea grows into a realized vision and how life long experiences help develop a creative Muse that speaks out to anybody who is willing to listen.
Jody Frost discovered photography first as a model, and then was given her first camera twenty-five years ago. She began with infrared self-portraits, then eventually moved onto shooting friends and models but would always return to self-portraits as a sort of journaling and maybe, just maybe... a glimpse into her own psyche or deeper levels of personal truth. Jody’s background and love for dance has always informed her images. She shoots everything from landscapes to architecture and still life. But always, Jody returns to the human element, forever longing to capture and freeze in a frame the magic that animates the flesh… that being… Spirit.
APA-SF Chairman, photographer Christian Peacock has lived the life of photography since childhood. He has been most fortunate to follow his passion and live a dignified life as an artist and is now engage in sharing his experiences with others. Jody and Christian have collaborated on numerous projects and recently returned from Italy where “Isabella” finally came into being.
